Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he started on the professional music career along with his brothers as a member of  The Jackson 5, then the Jacksons in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971. Jackson’s 1982 album, Thriller, is the best-selling album of all time. His other records, including Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory (1995), also rank among the world’s best-selling albums. Michael Jackson is one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. He was also inducted into the Dance Hall of Fame as the first dancer from the world of pop and rock ‘n’ roll.
“The King of Pop” died June 25th 2009, at 2:26pm, due to cardiac arrest, at the age of 50.
Cardiac arrest is different from a heart attack. When you have a heart attack, your heart still beats, at least initially, sending blood and oxygen around the body. A severe heart attack can actually cause a cardiac arrest. When you go into cardiac arrest, your heart stops completely. Most people who are not resuscitated after around ten minutes will die, due to lack of oxygen flow to the brain.

Experience

The Michael Jackson Experience has been touring for just over a year. Venues are mainly in smaller towns: Chatham, North Bay and Saskatoon. They recently played a sold-out show at Stage West, a 300-seat dinner theater in Mississauga. It’s quite the night out. A $60 ticket gets you access to a sprawling buffet of roast beef, butter chicken and an ice-cream bar. When the lights dim for the performance, you can hear the murmur of anticipation. Much of the audience is dressed in their Sunday best.
Lamothe is protective of Soul. “Probably 99 per cent of Michael Jackson tribute artists in the world don’t do live singing,” he says. “Bishop does. It’s really tiring out there. I’m working really hard to pace him.” On the road, they stay in nice hotels. They rarely do two shows back to back.

ABOUT THE SERIES.......

Statistics can tell us how many hairdressers, dentists and restaurateurs there are in a given area. They can tell us average salaries and unemployment rates.
But they can’t explain how a person ends up where they do. In a 12-part series, Mary Albino looks at what people across the city do for a living and the stories behind those choices. For more, visit http://www.thestar.com/living
